Warmth by e-mail

I, an old Danish Buddhist,  never had the good opportunity to meet Gene in person, but for some years we had a very nice e-mail-correspondence in which he demonstrated his wonderful kindness and spontaneous interest in other beings. In 2001 I have just returned from Eastern Tibet, having under many difficulties managed to send home a collection of Rinchen Terdzö pecha-text. Coming home to Denmark I found, that TBRC had just released The Rinchen Terdzö on 7 CD’s. I bought immediately and search with eager for Tibetan texts, that I have received transmission for. During the search I found a few mistakes on the CD’s and wrote to Gene about it. He answerede with entusiasm and praised me as one helping him and TBRC to perfect the collection. Immediately he send me the corrected CD’s. Getting into contact this way with this legendary figure, I wrote and praised his book “Among Tibetan texts”, and again he showed his generosity and humility, asking for my praise to be used as a testimonial. During our e-mail-conversation he remarked, that their seems to be many Danish Buddhists and tibetologist. He told me of his own visit to Denmark where he had had the good chance to meet famous Danish author Karen Blixen (alias Isak Dinesen).  He was so kind and addressed me as a friend also in several later e-mail-contacts. This warm memories of a great man is added by an old Danish Buddhist in the outer periphery of the mandala of Gene Smith.
